Sustainability Projects De Rijke Transportation
De Rijke has started, together with other companies, participating actively in projects focused on sustainability. For example the hydrogen project (trucks that run on hydrogen) and truck platooning. Because ‘Truckplatooning’ is not a established word yet, a movie had been made in which this principle is explained. (Click here for the movie).
The Port of Rotterdam has recently launched a study to understand better the role seaports could play in the sustainability of the entire logistics chain. Part of this research are interviews with shippers and carriers: De Rijke is going to be one of them.Every De Rijke truck, 300 units in France and 170 units in the Benelux, has been installed a new board computer. Also ‘fixed’ charters will get access via a special crafted app, so our customers can be given a real-time update of their shipments. The new board computers are able to measure the (economic) driving behaviour of drivers, so our driver performance can be made transparent. All of this with the aim to carry out the shipments as environmentally friendly as possible.Thursday 21-04 eight brand new Scania’s of the type G410, had been delivered. Five trucks were purchased as a replacement and three trucks are an extension of the current fleet! De Rijke choose for this lightweight Scania tractor because it is currently one of the most economical truck brands at the time. In addition, this type of truck has an axle load display controlled from the steering wheel: the actual fuel consumption is thus read. Also, the axle pressure of the air suspension axles and axle weight of the towed equipment is kept on it.
